Supplement Shipments: What a Temperature Record Can Establish

Connect a shipment temperature trace to its logger, location, journey and packaging before using it in a product-quality review.

Identify the part of the journey covered

Connect the record to the order, batch, route and handover times. A trace covering dispatch to an intermediate stop does not establish conditions for the entire delivery; the remaining legs need their own evidence.

These are editorial planning questions. FDA’s dietary supplement CGMP guide provides US holding and distribution context. Relevant product conditions, responsibilities and market requirements need to be established for the project.

Retain the logger and placement information

Link logger identification, placement, settings and relevant calibration records to the trace. Measurements inside one carton or at a pallet edge describe that recording position; do not generalize them to every item without assessment.

Align timestamps with real transport events. Record time zones, start and stop times and data gaps. Missing readings must not be silently interpreted as proof that no deviation occurred.

Keep the basis for deviation decisions

If readings fall outside agreed project conditions, retain the raw data, packaging observations and affected shipment scope for qualified review. This article does not set a universal temperature limit for all supplements.

Normal appearance alone should not erase a deviation record. Equally, one reading does not justify an unsupported conclusion that every item has failed. Connect disposition decisions to the actual product, packaging and supporting evidence.

Agree a repeatable handover process

Before shipping, specify who collects records, reviews exceptions and decides delivery or release, and where the evidence is stored. Test whether a complete batch record can reconstruct the journey and decision.

A trace supports quality discussion but does not test every product characteristic. Finished-product stability, packaging assessments and transport records have different scopes that should be explained within the same project.
