Beyond Assay: Recording Powder Particle Size and Filling Behaviour

Connect powder specifications to the proposed process with clear particle-size documentation, sample conditions and filling observations.

1. Separate analytical data from process observations

An assay report covers specified measurements. Movement, blending and filling in the proposed process require their own observations. A content result does not establish that every processing question is resolved.

Identify the material code, batch, receipt date and packaging condition, linked to formula and trial revisions. Establish comparable materials and observation conditions before comparing suppliers.

2. Read particle-size figures with their methods

Request relevant particle-size information, method, units and reporting basis. Results from different methods or different summary measures should not be treated as a simple ranking.

No universal threshold or preference for finer powder is proposed here. List the conditions the technical team needs to assess, then determine whether additional documentation or testing is appropriate. A size figure alone does not establish finished-product absorption or efficacy.

3. Record the sample conditions

Capture opening time, storage, environment, equipment and operating settings with the observations. Record any mixing or filling adjustment and its reason so an operating change is not mistaken for a material difference.

If clumping or filling variation appears, retain factual observations and the corresponding sample. Let appropriate personnel investigate the material, formula, equipment and packaging as relevant instead of assigning a cause immediately.

4. Make the conclusion actionable

For each question, record the observation, unresolved point, owner and next assessment. Distinguish acceptance of the trial revision, revision followed by another trial, and insufficient information.
