Capsules or Sachets? Matching Supplement OEM Formats to Formula Loading

A format decision works best when it follows the formula and the intended use experience. Before committing to capsules or powder sachets, map the amount of material per serving, how customers will take it and what protection the packaging needs to provide. This guide sets out practical questions for an ACC Biotech supplement OEM/ODM discussion.

Start with the complete serving weight

Include the full ingredient blend, carriers and any necessary processing aids when estimating serving weight. Keep input weight separate from the amount of a selected constituent. As an arithmetic example, a 1,200 mg daily blend divided into capsules with a verified 400 mg fill would require three capsules. The figures are illustrative; powder density, capsule dimensions and the actual process determine feasible fill weights.

Capsules: check fill performance and daily count

For capsules, discuss powder flow, blend uniformity and fill consistency alongside the acceptable daily capsule count. Equal weights of different powders can occupy different volumes. A supplier or extract change therefore deserves a fresh manufacturing assessment. Agree shell requirements, bottle count and the maximum practical daily count before locking the formula and estimating the pack size.

Sachets: make the use experience part of sampling

For a sachet, assess the complete blend in its intended method of use. Record water volume and temperature for a drink mix, or mouthfeel for a direct-consumption powder. Botanical extracts, minerals and microbial ingredients may behave differently when combined. Use a consistent sampling protocol with written observations, so the next version addresses a specific issue instead of an undefined request to improve the taste.

Compare packaging and quotation scope together

Compare cost per agreed serving and saleable pack, rather than the price of one capsule versus one sachet. Make the serving count, materials, printing and testing scope consistent across options. Where a formula or storage requirement is provisional, record that assumption in the quotation. This helps avoid redesigning a bottle or sachet after the artwork has already been approved.

Frequently asked question

Can both formats be assessed?

Ask for a feasibility assessment of both options. Sampling scope and timing depend on the ingredients, process and project budget; they should be confirmed in the project plan.
