Live status is one part of an AKK specification. Preparation-specific evidence, measurement and product design matter alongside it.
Live materials and inactivated preparations present different design questions. AKK PROBIO’s supplier lists both live and pasteurized forms; the actual purchasing specification should identify the grade being supplied.
Choose the route early so development, purchasing and content teams use consistent language. An inactivated preparation should not later be described as if it were a live material requiring viable counts at shelf-life end.
The ISAPP postbiotic definition includes a health-benefit requirement alongside inanimate microorganisms or their components. Processing a material and demonstrating the basis for a postbiotic description are separate questions.
Explain which preparation is used, the supporting evidence available and its scope. A popular category name should not stand in for that information.

Live projects need to address viability after processing and storage. Inactivated projects need appropriate preparation characterization, inactivation confirmation and measurement. The same acceptance description will not cover both routes.
Inactivated forms still require finished-product quality and stability review. Removing the need to keep organisms alive does not establish suitability for every temperature, formula or pack.
Bring target market, serving configuration, daily use and channel conditions into one brief before selecting a form for sampling.
The objective is a match between research preparation, purchased material and finished product, rather than a universal winner. That comparison gives the team a clearer basis for development decisions.
